Section 6:

Trends in home working

33% of lone workers said their organisation does not have formal safety measures in place for home workers.

As was said at the beginning of this report, the nature of work has changed for many throughout the UK. By 2022, the percentage of UK employees who were working from home to some extent was between 25% and 40%, depending on the time of year.

We wanted to delve into how home workers were managed in our questionnaire. These questions were only directed to lone workers.

One of the main findings in this section was that in a majority of cases (64%) home workers were not classed in the same way as lone workers. In a positive turn, 67% of lone workers said that their organisation had formal safety measures in place for home workers.

Significantly, almost two-thirds of respondents said that home working has increased in their organisations since before 2020.

54% of respondents said that home workers come into the office on average 3 days a week. This would probably fall more into the category of hybrid working.

Notably, most respondents think there will be a gradual return to spending more time in the workplace, but they seem to think it will not revert to pre-Covid behaviour.
