Part 3
Influencing decision-makers and users
Looking beyond the benefits of an EHS management system, as part of your initial planning you’ll also need to understand the different needs and concerns of people within your business.
The two most important to focus on will be those who make the decisions and sign off on capital purchases, and also those who will be using the software.

Decision-makers
What will the C-suite and senior management be looking for?
- Typically, this will be price and how the software will positively influence revenue and reduce operational costs while also safeguarding legal compliance obligations
- They will also want to understand other aspects such as longevity of the software, scalability and how implementation will work across the business and supply chains
To influence decision-makers, you should talk in terms of EHS software as a direct investment into the safety of employees and ongoing compliance with relevant regulations.
Teams using the software
What will software users and EHS teams be looking for?
- They are more likely to focus on functionality, usability, accuracy of data and how easy it is to configure the system to report on the metrics that matter most to your business and your industry
- Other areas they may want to understand is access to training for set up and also ongoing support and how scalable the system is to adapt as the business grows
To influence EHS teams and software users, you should talk in terms of how EHS software will make their job more efficient and why visibility of data across the whole business will shape more informed decisions and outcomes.
